White Rani was painted as a wrap cover, with more scenes from India and a topless Malasian girl, etc. The style was to blend a bunch of different smaller images into a composition with the larger couple, leaving space for type and the UPC code, of course. I'll post the full version sometime. It actually took a tremendous amount of work to do these montage covers, both in research and in the painting. But the effect was often beautiful. It was a style of storytelling in art that I think developed with the paperback cover, though I suppose you can trace it back to nedieval paintings where they would cram the panel full os figures, with figure size corresponding to that person's importance, without regard to it making sense spacially. As a result, the Virgin Mary, for instance would loom gigantic over tiny lesser players.
