RED SAILS

RED SAILS, ( not original title), reflects my interest in sailing ships. I put romantic couples on board whenever the story could plausably have that scene on the book cover.  It is not an easy thing to get the figures to look right and have space for type, without getting bogged down in ship details. THis design took liberties and had a large swath of sail come diagonally down to make a powerful composition. In many ways romance covers of that eara resembled sets for operas. Even the gestures of the loving couples were over the top, but that's what made them so compelling. I gave this piece an overall warm color scheme.
