DAWN

DAWN was painted in the 1990s,  as an example of where I wanted to go with the romance book cover genre. I wanted to see where I could take classical painting techniques fused with modern illustration ideas and this was the result, a girl awakening in her sun-filled bedroom, a cage of white doves nearby. One of the interests of mine has long been designing with patterned surfaces and the floral pattern on the walls and the geometric carpet show the effects of light and shade over patterns. I liked the open window, inviting the viewer to look past the girl to the Italianate gardens beyond. This image has not been used on a book cover yet.
