SEA PASSAGE

This is an early digital cover and it features an element I was using in those days, a "stage set" made in 3D. The boat was entirely made in an early 3D app then rendered to provide a place for my real couple to stand. I used it in the photo studio as a guide to lighting and placement. It was a ton of work, but it was fun, too, seeing whow I could make and then light and position, an object or environment. The program has long since become obsolete and my skills have too. I never made the transition to Maya, the premier 3D modelling program, with a steep price and learning curve. Sometimes I would do all of the above and then use the resulting image to do an oil painting. As far as I know, I was the only one using this process of combining photography, painting and 3D  modelling to create a book cover.
