THE HIGHWAYMAN

This is a very early piece, I'm not sure who the publisher was, but it might have been Berkley Books. It was painted in the late 1970s and shows my propensity for doing bold designs that used the tiny page of the paperback in a different way.Type was intended to go on the man's cape. Now that I look at it, there's a bit of a vampire look to him, but that really wasn't my intention. I wanted him to lok bad, but in a good way! Well, maybe that''s the thing with vampires in pop culture. They're evil and corrupt, but they are also good deep down and protective. Maybe he's a highwayman vampire?
